Unearthing Potential, Crafting Stories
At Lighthouse Casting, we thrive on the electrifying energy of creative storytelling, and the endless possibilities that each new casting endeavour presents.
Join us in this adventure of honouring the potential within each individual and exploring the ever-evolving puzzle of building a world. (Puzzles is a metaphor Kate uses a lot)
We are proud to work in this industry and alongside other CDs who we value, respect, and collaborate with.
Lighthouse Casting is a team of creatives, all of whom have worked or are working as actors, directors, writers or producers. Lighthouse Casting is a professional, hopeful, unique and character-filled place.
Our Team
Kate McGill - bad b***h & CEO (actually, a really nice human)
Kia ora, I’m Kate - I started Lighthouse Casting. I love telling stories and empowering others to do so. My ethos is centred around human kindness, and bringing yourself to the work. I pride myself on curating safe spaces for people to explore character, worlds, and play. As well as a casting director, I’m an actor, director and māmā. I’ve been lucky enough to work on some really cool, groundbreaking projects, and have had the support of some wonderful wāhine along the way. I wanted to branch out and form a company that allows the awesome team of people I work with to be keepers of the house, within a vision I feel is clear. A lighthouse looks out, marks down every potential ship and it keeps home safe. We are a sturdy home, always looking out for potential, and embracing the storytellers that enter the water. (I love a metaphor)
Tim Carlsen - Legend
This is Tim. Kate originally found a picture of him on the web in some period piece, but then thought she better get a nice pic taken of him. He’s a great actor. A great casting director. And a great guy. You’ll often see him in the Lighthouse Casting room. When Tim was little, he made a cartoon book about cacti. It’s adorable but also tiny Tim didn’t realise what his cartoon looked like… Tim loves gardening, making saag paneer, and telling stories too.
Tim says: “Kate, stop writing blurbs on my behalf.”

Here are some friendly faces you might see in the Lighthouse Casting room. We work with people who give hoots about storytelling, who want to empower actors, and who are professionals in the industry. They’re also friends. And good ones.
